Making a difference
Today's prompt: Take a stand! What do you believe strongly in or against? Take up your place in a virtual picket line or climb up on your soapbox and preach!
I went to the Cheesecake Factory on a recent trip to the US and was horrified by the portion sizes that they serve...the portion sizes in most restaurants are more that necessary, but I think the Cheesecake Factory tops the charts of all the places I have been. All I could think about while I was eating my "enough for 3 people- appetizer portion- caesar salad" is that in the west we are so affluent to the point that we are insensitive to the needs of most of the world. We throw so much away... we take so much for granted... when there are so many with out. This made me think, and to reaffirm the way I try to live my life:
I commit to do the following and to teach my children the same:
1. Be thankful everyday for what I have even when I think it is not enough... God gives me all that I need.
2. Look outside of my little world and see the needs of those around me, whether that be the person next door, in the next parish, or in another country on the other side of the world.
3. Live simply... not be on a mission to acquire things just to say I have the best this or the latest that.
4. Look for ways everyday to make someone else's life better, make our world better.
If we all give more of ourselves we can make a difference. Will you join me?

Rusheika, I SO agree with you about the consumption culture of the west, it is human nature at it's worst undisciplined self - I think we would all be horrified if the facts and the comparisons with others in the world were laid out in front of us. Great topic to take a stand on!!
I agree! I'm with you, girl! You really hit the mark with this one. I made the comment to my dd a half-hour ago that we need to be thankful that we have more food than we can eat and that there are others who eat only once a day (or less). You said it perfectly. Thanks!
Great post! I once heard a story of Chicken Little who was laying in the road on her back with her feet up. A friend came by and asked what she was doing so she answered, "The sky is falling! And I am just trying to do my part." If we all took time to do our part, maybe the world would be a better place.
